Frequently Asked Questions
Quick answers about RollFate, the free multiplayer 3D dice roller.
Using RollFate
Is RollFate free?
Yes. Everything you need to roll, alone or with friends, is free, with no ads. Some extra dice sets can be bought. They only change how your dice look, never how they roll.
Do I need an account?
No. Open the site and roll. You play anonymously. An optional Google sign-in only keeps things you get on RollFate, like dice sets, across your devices.
Do I need to download anything?
No. RollFate runs in your browser on desktop and on phones. There's also an Android app.
Does it work offline?
Once you've opened RollFate, solo rolling keeps working if your connection drops. Rolling with friends in a room needs a connection.
Which languages is it in?
English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Polish, Ukrainian and Russian. RollFate follows your device's language, and you can switch it in Settings → Language.
Rolling with friends
How do I roll with my group?
Open Party and create a room. You get a six-character room code. Share the code or the link, and everyone who joins sees every roll land at the same moment, each player in their own dice colors.
Does it work with Discord or Zoom?
Yes, alongside them. Keep your call going and open RollFate in a browser tab. Everyone in the room sees the same dice.
How do I know everyone sees the same result?
In a room, each roll's result is decided once, on the device of the player who rolls, and every player's dice land on that same result.
Can the DM roll in secret?
Yes. A secret roll's result is only shown to the roller, the host and the room's DMs, and can be revealed to one player or the whole party later. See RollFate for DMs, which also covers the initiative tracker.
Can I keep my players out of my room?
The host can set a room password, and can turn on host-only rolling when needed.
Dice and games
Which games does RollFate work with?
Any game that uses standard polyhedral dice: Dungeons & Dragons, Daggerheart (with Hope and Fear dice), Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu (with d100) and many more. It doesn't yet have Fate/Fudge dice or count successes for dice-pool games.
Which dice can I roll?
d4, d6, d8, d10, d12, d20 and d100, in any combination, up to 50 dice in one roll (a d100 counts as two: a tens die and a units die).
What dice notation does it understand?
2d6+3: dice plus a modifier1d20+1d4: different dice in one roll4d6kh3/2d20kl1: keep the highest or lowest dice (stat rolls, advantage and disadvantage)2d6*2,1d8/2: multiply or divide the total
Not sure how to write a roll? The Roll Builder lets you click it together instead.
Does RollFate keep my rolls?
Your recent roll history stays in your browser for 24 hours. In a room, anyone can export the party's roll log as a text file.
Is RollFate a virtual tabletop?
No. It's a dice roller, with no maps, tokens or character sheets. That's on purpose: there's nothing to set up, so your group can start rolling in a minute.
